Johnson claims maiden title

Felicity Johnson claimed her first title on the Ladies European Tour with a two-shot victory at the Tenerife Ladies Open.

The 22-year-old from Birmingham sealed the win in style with birdies on the last two holes at Costa Adeje for a closing 67 and total of 274, 14 under par.

Wales' Becky Brewerton, who led by three with a round to play, stumbled to a 72 and took outright second.

"It's all a bit surreal at the moment but I've worked so hard for this so it's ! just fantastic that it's finally come together for me," said Johnson.

"I hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens and made a couple of good up and downs early on which kept the pars on the card.

"I just hit one bad shot on 14 and made a bogey there but apart from that I played really solid golf again.

"I led after the first round in Gothenburg last year and I've finished third four times so it was a matter of putting the icing on the cake really."

Germany's Bettina Hauert finished third with England's Melissa Reid (67) fourth alongside Spain's Tania Elosegui (73) on six under.

Germany's Anja Monke shared sixth with Laura Davies on four under, Davies having scraped through the cut at halfway.
